About Taupo
In my mind, Taupo offers so much to do and see, that it would be remiss not to visit this
region. You can go fly fishing in nearby mountain streams or you can boat fish for trout
in Lake Taupo that is a water filled crater about a mile across. I have waded into the
lake just to experience the hot sand underfoot, reminding you that this is actually the
head of a volcano with its upper cone blown away from an eruption many thousands of years
ago. There are many other thermal regions one can visit such as "The Craters of the
Moon" inbetween playing golf.
The Taupo Golf Club
The TGC has two courses, the Centennial Championship and the Tauhara. I have played the
Centennial and can recommend this inland, parkland course. My rating is a category 3 out
of my Coolabar rating of 1 to 5 - 5 being the top rating.
Centennial: 18 holes - par 72, 6313 metres in length.
If you want to play Category 5 courses, there are two in the Taupo region.
The marvellous
Wairakei and the new Kinlock, a Jack Nicklaus Signature course.
