45 Lake Horseshoe Road, Shirley, Christchurch, NZ

The Christchurch Golf Club was founded in 1873, making it the second oldest Club in New Zealand. Its early play was at courses in Hagley Park and in the general area where the Russley Golf Club is now. However, in 1900 leases were taken out on three portions of land which form the core of the Shirley Links that the Club has used for 100 years.

Said to be the finest course in Canterbury, Shirley has recently been made even tougher with a Peter Thomson re-design. It still retains the links style flavour that led Deane Beman to pronounce it the best Eisenhower course in recent memory at the time of the 1990 event.

The course has been the venue for numerous NZ Opens and NZ Amateurs and is acknowledged as one of NZ's top courses. The lush fairways are complemented by billiard table-like greens and a multitude of bunkers. The clubhouse reeks of tradition and its uncrowded surroundings cap off any game. Shirley is considered to be the #1 course for visitors to Christchurch seeking a high quality golf experience.

First established in 1873, Scottish links style, featuring lots of small bumps and pine, gorse and broom trees.
