THE GRANGE GOLF CLUB
Grange Road, Papatoetoe, Auckland , New
Zealand
About the Grange
Situated in Manukau City, only 20 minutes drive from the centre of Auckland, The Grange
Golf Club is one of New Zealand's best courses. It offers excellent facilities and a
championship standard course suitable for players of all abilities. The course is always
well maintained and is an excellent test of golf.
Visitors from around the world are made welcome, and the course has hosted every major New
Zealand Tournament, both Amateur and Professional. The new Zealand open Championship has
often been held on the course, most recently in January 2001. The Air New Zealand/Shell
Open began its 20 year operation at The Grange in 1975, and after moving to other venues
returned for the last three years of its existence, 1992 to 1994 inclusive.
The Grange is easy walking (motorized golf carts are avaialble) with undulating tree-lined
fairways. The premium is placed on accuracy rather than length with trees and bunkers
strategically placed to punish the shots that stray. The greens (Annual Blue grass) are
usually fast and very true, and pin placements can be quite demanding.
The course record is 62, set by Roger Davis when winning the N Z Open in 1986. In 1992
Nick Price shot 63 in the final round when winning the Air New Zealand/Shell Open. The
amateur record is 63, set by a 21 year old Member of the Club, Logan Holzer, when playing
in the Qualifying round for the 2002 N Z Open. After two birdies on the front nine, he
shot five further birdies in the second nine to finish at seven under par. In the field of
104 Players only one other Player broke par.
